Hospital

As I was sitting down to write this review a friend of mine asked me what I thought of the movie other than it was a bit weird (it's a well known fact I like weird).  I told her I liked it but that was probably a biased opinion because I would watch dancing monkeys if they were directed by Benny Profane.  I enjoy his movies the same way I enjoy Chuck Palahniuk books.  I am well aware that everyone isn't going to get it and those people are going to wonder what in the hell is wrong with me because I do and find it all a work of genius.  In fact, I am starting to think of Benny Profane as the Chuck Palahnuik of porn.  That brings me to Hospital.

Hospital is described as being dark, squalid and ominous.  Watching the movie I was pretty sure that I had visited military and VA hospitals in my life that the particular hospital in this movie could have been modeled after.  If that isn't enough to mess with the mind the idea of trepanation should (no pun intended).  For those that don't know, trepanation is the act of drilling a hole in the head to treat medical problems.  Some believe it can be used to treat mental disorders by increasing brain blood volume as well as heighten psychic awareness.

That is what Dr. Benny and his staff of nurses want to do to Lucy (Mandy Morbid), drill a hole in her head, to cure her of being a drug addict and sexual deviant.  I have days that I am sure if the government could get away with it they would attempt to "cure" the nations population of these things (among others), maybe not by trepanation but by something else.  Just as interesting is that Dr. Benny and his staff have devised ways of taping into and watching Lucy's memories.  These memories allow the viewer to watch Lucy's previous exploits in a series of flashbacks.  The one thing that I am curious about, that the movie never did explain, is how Lucy ended up in this hospital.

The story opens with a scene between Mandy Morbid, who I almost didn't recognize due to her black wig, and Zak Sabbath.   I am not sure that we are supposed to know that it's Zak though, since his face is never seen and a voice tells us that Lucy is in another strange hotel room with another stranger and how she wished she could tell her future in the sandskrit like writing of semen trails on motel sheets.

Next Lucy wakes in the squalid hospital.  She makes her way out of the room she is in, either to escape or look around and comes across the nurses dressed in fetish attire, Caroline Pierce and Soche Mala who have abandoned stocking the shelves for some girl on girl action.  Even Benny Profane isn't immune to using the magic of porn physics, that phenomenon where props just seem to come out of nowhere.  However, being a medical facility, I am almost positive that the strap-on might have come out of a box marked "prosthetics".  Lucy watches from the doorway, touching herself, until she is found and drug off.

The first in a series of flashbacks shows her and her boyfriend, Zak Sabbath, in their con operation getting money out of people before retiring to a favorite hotel for a celebration that includes sex.  This is one of those rare scenes that you come across every now and again in porn that you almost feel guilty for watching.  On screen chemistry is one thing, but when real life couples are involved you get a little more than that and sometimes it comes across as if you are intruding on a private moment.  This is one of those scenes and it ends with Zak dumping a huge bowl of candy hearts on Mandy.

Back in the hospital Mandy is being drug into a shower stall where she is secured to the shower head, the water turned on and left.  Another flashback, that the hospital staff is monitoring, has Marie McCray playing Lucy at a different time prior to her stay at the Hospital.  She meets Daniel in what appears to be an empty loft apartment except for a TV and chair that he is sitting in playing a video game.  I really wish that there was something, anything, about Daniel that could hold my attention for more than the time it takes to say "Oh, Daniel is in this scene."  I have yet to see a performance by him that doesn't bore me to tears.  I wish I knew what it was about him that threatened to put me into a coma but I have yet to figure it out, and I hate to say that about any actor.  I sure the hell couldn't do what they do.  I just wish that Marie McCray would have been paired with someone else.  Just my own personal preference because, as far as I am concerned, any scene with Daniel in it is too damn long.

Now we get to see Dr. Benny, and the inspiration for Mandy's Trepanation video in the extras (a shorter version can be viewed on youtube).  Dr. Benny explains to Lucy that he is going to cure her of her drug addiction and sexual deviancy through trepanation and exactly what trepanation is.  She's not going to have any of this and stabs Dr. Benny in the head with a pencil.  His reaction is to ask if anyone else smells peanut butter.

Lucy manages to escape the hospital, her boyfriend and Coco Velvett are waiting outside in a car to take her home and engage in a three-way that is not to be missed.

I understand that this is the first movie of Profanes that the studio let him have full control over.  With that kind of freedom it will be interesting and exciting to see what else comes out of the mind of Benny Profane.  Hospital isn't going to appeal to everyone, but for those that are a fan of alt porn and the previous works of Profane are sure to enjoy it.
