Diamond Couture and I interviewed adult star and contemporary artist Zak Sabbath

Interview with Zak Sabbath

If I had to pick one word to describe Zak Sabbath it would be unique. He isn't exactly what anyone would expect for either a Yale graduate or a porn star. One doesn't expect a rather well known contemporary artist to have half his head shaved and sport a number of tattoos but by the same token one doesn't expect a porn star to have a Masters Degree in art from Yale.

Where Art Meets Porn
It is almost ironic that it was his art work that brought Zak into porn. In a labor of love, Zak decided to illustrate each page of Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon. I can only compare it to Steve Vai transcribing the works of Frank Zappa. It's something that someone does because they want to that others find both impressive and insane at the same time because they don't understand why someone would take the time to put into such a project. Zak's work is now hanging in the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. I don't know what became of Vai's musical transcriptions. Anyway, this collection of art lead to a brief conversation with producer Benny Profane, who took his porn name from another work of Pynchon, V. Sometime later Profane contacted Zak because he wanted to use his art work in one of his movies. Zak said he wanted to fuck girls on film. The rest as they say is porn history.

Zak Sabbath on Porn
Zak isn’t shy about asking anyone’s opinion on porn and what they like to see. Debating plotted porn vs. porn without a plot with him is one that could go on for quite some time. I can’t answer why some people like plot with their sex other than it gives a reason for the sex. Others don’t need or want that. Which is more important though, the sex or the plot? I don’t know. I never thought about it, at least not enough to debate the topic.

How does he deal with having sex in uncomfortable places and situations, like the hood of a car? He compared it to chicken salad. “It’s salad, but there is chicken in it, so you just deal with the salad part.”

Zaks favorite sexual position: in porn it’s reverse cowgirl because he doesn’t have to do anything. In real life, it depends on the girl.
