I find Japanese hentai to be a curious genre. Even people who like porn might giggle and smirk at the idea of watching animated porn, but I feel that many people either have watched or would like to watch a hentai film of their own. I mean really, animated porn? The sky’s the limit!

That said, to any of you that might just be curious out there, I say give Taboo Charming Mother (or “Endo Taboo”) a try for your first hentai. So many times hentai can be cheaply made, badly animated, exhibit terrible character design, and just be all-around bad. But I didn’t find this to be true at ALL for Taboo Charming Mother. I’m a long-time anime fan with fairly high standards when it comes to Japanese animation, this series has a really clean, fresh look to it with “modern” character designs. It would be a great springboard for anyone interested in hentai -- or an awesome watch for anyone who already enjoys hentai!

I should note that it SEEMS that Yappo only has a japanese language, non-subbed version of the series. For some of you this might be a let down, for others, you might not want to read while watching anyway! But the series HAS been picked up by the American company JapanAnime and IS available with English subtitles. I’ve been doing a LOT of searching for the series online (frankly, I’m too cheap to purchase Yappo minutes) and have found that most of the downloads, while they CLAIM to have subtitles, actually don’t. So with this review, I’m going to give you a play-by-play of the first disk because, really, it’s enough to just have an idea of what’s going on before going into it ;)

Taboo Charming Mother 1 begins with Misako (the “Taboo Charming Mother” in question) seeing her husband and step-son, Kazuhiko off for the day. We learn here that Misako was married into the family only a year ago and that, for some reason Kazuhiko basically blows her off. The husband, Yosuke, is angry, but Misako knows it takes time.

Once inside, Misako receives a phone call from a guy with a really awkward-sounding voice. She asks him to “stop his harassment” and we find out that she’s been getting prank calls from this guy on a daily basis. The caller starts taunting her about her sex life, asking how many times she did it the previous night, saying HE would’ve fucked her five times, and commenting that a “middle-aged man can’t do that”. Misako demands to know who he is but he continues to taunt, asking if she realizes that the “neighbors jack off thinking about you”. He continues with sexy talk and she yells at him to stop and hangs up. She answers the next call by shouting, “Please stop!” but it’s actually her step-son, Kazuhiko, letting her know he’s having dinner at a friend’s.

In the next scene we see Misako in rather sexy lingerie in bed with her husband. Her voice-over states it’s been two months since they made love. She wants to tell him about the prank calls, but he dismisses her and falls asleep. The next morning Kaziko is scolded, again, for not addressing Misako, but on his way out the door he quietly address her as “Mother”. Misako and Yusuke are pleased with this revelation, and Yousuke compliments her on being a good mother.

Once alone, the phone rings and, of course, it’s the mystery caller. He tells her he has a present for her outside and, when she goes to get it, she finds a vibrating dildo inside a box. She decides to stand up to him, but when he calls back he continues to taunt asking if he “interrupted” her while using it. She says she’s going to get rid of it, maybe call the police, and he suggests that she might want to disarm the bomb in it first.
