Honey Bunny Review When it comes to alt.porn, I tend to either really enjoy them or find them intolerable. That’s why opinion towards Honey Bunny is so surprising, as I find myself more or less indifferent to this one. There’s no mention of who sings the theme song, but it sounds like the Violent Femmes. According to the credits, it’s someone called Esmeralda Strange. I googled the name, and she is a one-woman band (self-billed) from San Francisco.

The film opens with some black-outs of actors speaking nonsense which is neither funny, nor profound. The theme tends to revolve around art, counter culture, honey and bunnies. It’s sort of like Laugh-In on acid. On another level, the lack of continuity reminds me of the bad student films I used to see while I was a film student at San Francisco State.


Scene One: Eventually, we get to a sex scene, featuring Max Mikita and a bit of male talent who looks like Eric Bogosian. I really like Max’s outfit in this scene, though I’ve never been a fan of her butch haircut. The outfit is a latex black thing chains and such. The nice thing is that, for a butch punk chick, she gives fine oral to Bogasianesque cock. I also like the way her bush is unshaven, the way nature intended (which is not my preference; I like them trimmed but this looks good on her). She grows a fair amount of hair for an asian girl, to say the least.

This scene wants to get kinky, with it’s toys and masks, but it never gets quite as freaky as it wants to be, though the unusual and contorting position that they use for the rear entry comes close.

At some point during the second round of doggy, they editor tries something fancy, similar to the liquid display shows from the 1960’s, and it is to little effect. After about five positions, I notice that Page doesn’t open her eyes when she fucks. I’m not sure if that bothers me or not.

At some point between scenes three and four, the editor does a montage with a kaleidoscope effect. And some point, someone needed to say “This doesn’t work.”

I know that part of alt.porn is featuring women who aren’t typical porn stars, but looking at Varla’s chunky butch body, I really don’t want to see her naked. The scene is a series of light fetish activities, with Poppy as the sub and Varla as the dom. There’s a strange looking carrot dildo, unlike anything I’ve seen before, but as we know, bunnies like carrots. I’m not that crazy about g/g in the first place, and this was less enjoyable due to the lack of eye candy.

If I were ranking this for myself, I would give it a 3.5, but I think that most of the alt.porn fans will enjoy this more than I did, so I’m going to be generous and give it four stars. As always, I enjoy the cinematography of winkytiki, who has a very good command of bright colors (which is something that will always earn points in my book). The mixture of art into the background of the scenes was also a good touch.
